Mark Carney is a Canadian economist, former central banker, and politician who became Prime Minister of Canada in 2025. His career spans international finance, monetary policy, climate finance, and public service, making him one of the country’s most prominent contemporary political and economic figures.
Born in 1965 in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Carney studied economics at Harvard University before completing postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford. He began his professional career in international investment banking before entering public service.
